Why give to charity? Because it is a commandment of our Father in heaven (Leviticus 25:35, Deuteronomy 15:7-8). But is that the only reason? As if we need another! But in fact, there is another reason. It is righteousness to you. In Hebrew the word for righteousness is “Tzedek.” A similar word is used of a righteous person, called a “Tzadik.” The common Hebrew word for the giving of charity is “Tzedekah.” In Hebrew thought the giving of charity is one of the highest forms of righteousness. In His Sermon on the Mount, our Messiah had this to say about righteousness:

“Let your light so shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven… For I say to you, that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Scribes and Pharisees, you shall not enter the kingdom of heaven.”

Admittedly, the giving of charity to convicted criminals is not a very glorious task. There are many other more palatable expressions of giving and so most people tend to give their tzedekah to more tasteful and high profile charities. That is precisely the reason we need your help. Those we wish to help are not people in far off countries with ways and religions foreign to you. They are your own wayward brethren who have failed in life and are trying their best to mend their ways in order to become your brothers and sisters in our common faith and to serve our Father in heaven. We must not turn our backs and fail them. Our best and most perfect example is our Messiah who ate with the tax collectors and sinners, who said that He came to heal the sick and not the healthy. He said, “Freely you have received, freely give.”  If you do not help these poor brethren of ours it is unlikely that anyone will.  Please give generously. Thank you!

                                                                               2018  Passover Package Program

One way you can give charity to your brothers and sisters in prison is through our Passover Package Program. This is an exciting new program designed to enable believers to keep the most basic scriptural commands concerning Passover in prison. In 2018 we provided 512 Passover packages to 90 prisons across the nation. We worked very hard to get these packages approved in prisons across the nation and we are very pleased to have Chaplains calling us and requesting these packages for their Messianic/Jewish/Sabbath observant inmates. The Passover package contains 4 items: 1 box of matzah (unleavened bread), 2 bottles of grape juice, 1 packet of horseradish (bitter herbs), and a Passover haggadah. The cost per package is about $5.25.

We appreciate all the donations that helped us purchase all the items we needed to put together the Passover packages for those who came to us. We were blessed to have over a dozen volunteers of all ages donate their hands and feet to help us with the monumental physical task of putting together hundreds of packages and getting them into the mail.

There are hundreds of Messianic believing communities in the prisons. SKF will be sending Passover packages to some of them and, a very few, will be blessed to have volunteers who will bring them a seder meal and celebration. Many more are alone and will have no one to observe Passover with. It is SKF's goal to make sure no prisoner is forgotten at Passover. It is our hope that we can bring every brother and sister in prison to our Father's Passover table and, ultimately, into His kingdom. Will you join SKF and help us reach our goal?
